Singer Paulini Curuenavuli is facing charges of bribery and is due to appear in a Sydney court midway through her run in the musical The Bodyguard.

Curuenavuli shot to fame in 2003 as a contestant on the first season of Australian Idol and made her stage debut starring in the Australian production of The Bodyguard this year.

NSW Police on Friday confirmed the 34-year-old was issued a future court attendance notice on June 30 and is due to face Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday.

It's alleged Curuenavuli paid a sum of money to a Roads and Maritime Services employee in exchange for an unrestricted NSW driver's licence.

Police say she will be charged with corruptly giving a benefit to an agent, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in jail.

A 27-year-old RMS worker was charged in July 2016 for making false documents and no longer works for the department.

The musical production appeared blindsided by the news of the Fijian-born singer's charges.

"The Bodyguard has only just learned of the allegations this morning," the production said in a statement on Friday.

The musical is set to wind up its Brisbane run on Sunday.

The show, in which Curuenavuli plays the role of Rachel Marron, the character made famous by Whitney Houston, then heads south to Melbourne from August 24.

"We would like to reassure patrons that the show will go on. Paulini remains committed to performing her role in The Bodyguard," the production said.
