You may be wondering, isn’t this movie already a thing? Yes, back in 1997, the iconic slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer brought us Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Sarah Michelle Gellar as a group of young friends bound by a tragic accident. Their lives took a terrifying turn a year later when they were stalked by a vengeful, hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.
Fast forward to 2025, the story is getting a modern twist. This time, five friends are involved in a deadly car accident and instead of facing the consequences, they decide to cover it up and make a pact to keep their secret buried. But secrets don’t stay hidden forever.
A year later, their dark past resurfaces, and they are forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer. As a killer begins stalking them one by one, the group discovers that this isn’t the first time such events have played out. Desperate for answers, they turn to two survivors of the original 1997 Southport Massacre, Julie James and Ray Bronson (played once again by Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.) for help.
Joining the returning stars is an exciting ensemble cast of fresh talent, including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Gabbriette Bechtel, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez. Billy Campbell and Austin Nichols also star in this thrilling revival.
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, the film promises to combine nostalgic horror with a fresh perspective. Neal H. Moritz, who produced the original, returns to helm this new chapter, which was filmed in both Sydney and Los Angeles.
I Know What You Did Last Summer slashes its way into theaters on July 17th. Don’t miss it!!
