Meeting and public talk of the Burnie Historical Society

Touring around Tasmania with Spurling in around 1919 by car.

Burnie Historical Society’s speaker this month is Graeme Williams.  Graeme was born in St Helens and in 1988 started collecting postcards from around the area.  He was very pleased with himself when he got to 50 – he now has over 9,000 Tasmanian pictorial postcards.

Graeme’s talk will take everybody on a tour of Tasmania via the medium of the Spurling postcards as if we were all travelling together around 1919.

We will start tour at Trevallyn before heading down the Tamar River, across through to Bridport, Derby, Lottah and later passing over the Golden Fleece Bridge at St Helens before continuing our magical mystery tour to see the Hobart Cup, a game of cricket at the TCA ground and ride on the train to Magnet.

We will have a night at the Deloraine Hotel, and we will also stay at the Great Lake and do some fishing. The trip will finish in Launceston after we play a game of golf at Kings Meadows.

This will be a magical mystery tour so book your tickets early, pack your bags and you will enjoy a trip of a lifetime.
