Former Burnie Mayor Alwyn Boyd is back on the Burnie City Council following a recount, triggered by the resignation two weeks ago of former three-term mayor Steve Kons.
Mr Kons, also a former Deputy Premier and Braddon MP, said at the time he was stepping down to devote more time to business and family.
Three of the five unsuccessful council candidates nominated for the recount, with the Tasmanian Electoral Commission confirming on Monday afternoon Mr Boyd had won the recount over Ryan Gilmour and Craig Hensley.
Before losing his seat in the 2022 election, Mr Boyd had served on the council for 22 years, including 12 years as mayor.
He will now serve out the remainder of the term until the 2026 Local Government elections.
