Coastal basketball pioneer Garry Davenport is being remembered for his contribution to the sport both on and off the court.
Mr Davenport, who passed away late last week, aged 81, played for Australia during the 1960s and was one of the instigators of the NWBU Coastal basketball competition, which started in 1974 and is now considered the best regional basketball competition in Australia.
He was also an accomplished coach and administrator and a life member of the NWBU, and both Devonport and Latrobe Basketball Associations.
Mr Davenport’s funeral service will be held in Devonport on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, mourners are being asked to make a donation to support Devonport junior basketball.
