Burnie’s Hellyer Regional College will host Australia’s first ever school-based rel;ay For Life event next month to raise funds for the Cancer Council Tasmania.
A number of Hellyer students, along with many students from other schools have been regular participants in the North-West Relay For Life at Penguin in previous years.
The Cancer Council Tasmania recently put the call out for community groups wanting to hold their own shorter events running less than 20 hours, with Hellyer College stepping up to host a six-hour relay event on September 14th.
The event will be held at the college from 9am to 2.45 pm and is being organised by students enrolled in the college’s community services classes.
The college has now put the call out for local businesses and community donors to support the cause.
Meanwhile, two relay events will be held on the North-West Coast next year, at Penguin on February 24th and 25th., as well as at Smithton on March 2nd.
