Coastal MPs back call for EPA review

Independent and minor party Braddon MPs are among 15 parliamentarians calling for a review of the state’s Environment Protection Authority.

The recently elected Jacqui Lambie Network’s Miriam Beswick and Independent Craig Garland, along with long-sitting Mersey MLC Mike Gaffney have responded to a call from the Neighbours Of Fish Farms group, or NOFF, calling for a full independent and transparent inquiry into the EPA.

NOFF president Peter George says with the delayed State of the Environment report due soon and salmon industry plans to expand to North-West waters, Tasmania is going to need a better, stronger, more open and independent EPA than currently exists.

Independent Craig Garland says North-West Coasters, indigenous people, fishers and surfers are all against any expansion until what he describes as an out of control industry gets proper regulation.
