Former North West Coaster Grant O’Brien has been confirmed as the inaugural chairperson of Tasmania’s new AFL team.
The announcement is being made at Penguin on Friday morning with Premier Jeremy Rockliff and AFL CEO Gillon McLauchlan.
Mr O’Brien played football with Penguin while growing up on the North West Coast including being part of the Two Blues last premiership in 1985.
He has been chair of the Australian Sports Commission and is currently chair of Tourism Tasmania.
Mr O’Brien was also a member of the AFL Taskforce which put together the business case to apply to the AFL for the licence for Tasmania as the competition’s 19th team.
