The coronial inquest into the Hillcrest Primary School jumping castle tragedy is looking to engage a US based wind expert, who’s previously contributed to NASA missions.
A case management conference held in Hobart hearing Dr Ralph Lorenz, a planetary scientist and aerospace engineer, would be able to provide evidence regarding the effect of a “dust devil” on the jumping castle.
A test involving re-inflating the jumping castle will be postponed until his opinion is received, as it could influence the experiment’s methodology – Coroner Olivia McTaggart saying Dr Lorenz’s expertise would likely provide critical material to help her understand how the deaths of the six children occurred.
The inquest commences hearings again in Devonport, next week.
