Huon Valley Council is hoping to draw a line under a troubled chapter, with the resignation of General Manager Jason Browne.

Mr Browne has called it a day two years into a five-year term in the wake of what the state’s auditor-general labelled a “flawed” recruitment process, which saw a consultant he was in a relationship with recommend him for the role.

The Australian Services Union also slammed a 6.5 per cent pay rise for the GM awarded last year.

Mr Browne says he’s proud of council’s progress in responding to community concerns about road maintenance and development applications, with a 30 per cent reduction in complaints.

“Our recent National Economic Development Award is indicative of the great work being progressed by Council and I thank the staff for their passion in serving the community,” said Mr Browne.

Mayor Sally Doyle has thanked Mr Browne for his “significant contributions to council and community”.
