A community meeting will be held in Burnie on Wednesday, August 14, in a bid to support running an independent candidate for Braddon in next year’s Federal Election.
The meeting is being organised by Voices of Tasmania, a non-partisan group working towards getting independents elected to Parliament.
Voices of Tasmania convener Malcolm Ryan says the group was encouraged by the election of Braddon Independent Craig Garland in this year’s State Election.
The voices movement was instrumental in getting members of the so-called Teal Independents to the last Federal Election in 2022.
Mr Ryan says Voices are not a political party, but just a group which wants to assist the community to find their own candidate who will best represent their views and values.
The meeting will be held at the Fairy Godmothers Centre in Mount Street, Upper Burnie, at 6.30 pm.
