The NWFL has named a 37-man squad to take on the Southern Football League in a battle for regional football supremacy next month at North Hobart.

Players from reigning premier and current ladder leader Devonport make up almost a third of the squad, with 10 players selected.

Last year’s runner-up Burnie is next best, with seven players selected, with six from neighbouring club Wynyard.

All seven NWFL clubs have at least one player selected in the initial squad.

Latrobe and Penguin have four each, three are from Ulverstone, and one from Circular Head.

Premiership-winning coach Kurt Byard, who retired last year after guiding Devonport to its third consecutive flag, has been named as head coach for the NWFL.

An NWFL Colts team will also take on the SFL’s under 18 representative team, with former Latrobe coach Nick Hizartzidis named as coach.
