The call has gone out for anyone interested in learning how to be a visitor guide at two of the North-West Coast’s biggest little penguin rookeries.
Friends of Burnie Penguins and Friends of Lillico Penguins groups provide free interpretive penguin tours during the breeding season from September to April and help visitors learn about the penguins.
No previous experience or knowledge is required for the training days in Burnie later this month.
Friends of Burnie Penguins vice-char Evelyn DeVito says anyone over 16 years of age prepared to volunteer for 2-3 hours once a week is welcome.
The first training day will be on September 16th for both Burnie and Lillico groups, with a Burnie-specific session on the following Saturday, September 23.
Meanwhile, a new penguin viewing platform has been built at Stanley, with the hope a roster of volunteer guides can also be put in place for the upcoming season.
