The Federal Election may be over, but the focus will now shift to local issues for North-West Coasters, many of whom will have to vote for a second time this month.
The upper house seat of Montgomery, which takes in Central Coast, Sheffield, Ridgley and most of Burnie is one of three Legislative Council seats facing an election on May 24th.
Voters in the southern seats of Nelson and Pembroke will have also to vote for the second time in three weeks.
Sitting Montgomery Liberal MLC Leonie Hiscutt, who is retiring at the end of her term, is also Government Leader in the Upper House.
The Liberal candidate to replace her is former Senator Stephen Parry, of Ulverstone.
However, Mr Parry will have to win a five-way race, with Mrs Hiscutt’s son and Central Coast Councillor Casey Hiscutt running as in independent.
Penguin GP Darren Briggs is running for the Tasmanian Greens, while student Gatty Burnett is also running as an independent, with Adrian Pickin representing the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party Tasmania.
