The first of two Spirit of Tasmania replacement ships due next year will officially get its bottom wet for the first time on Friday night our time.
Spirits of Tasmania 4 and 5 are currently under construction in Finland, with Spirit 4 to be officially named and christened at 6.30 pm on Friday at the Rauma Marine Corporation shipyard.
After the naming, the dry dock will fill with water, allowing the vessel to float for the first time.
The ceremony will be live streamed on the Spirit of Tasmania website.
Spirit of Tasmania 4 is due to arrive in Devonport during the first quarter of next year, with Spirit 5 to follow in the last quarter of the year.
