Spirit IV
Crew training has been successfully completed in Hobart, bringing staff up to date with training in life-saving and firefighting appliances, deployment of the mass evacuation system and general familiarisation of new onboard facilities.
While the final fit-out of Spirit of Tasmania IV has seen around 100 Tasmanian contractors installing tabletops, mattresses, arcade games, cabin stores, water stations, point of sale equipment and safety equipment over the past month.
Work continues on pet kennel installation, crew cabin fit out and installation of artwork and signage which includes braille to assist vision impaired passengers.
Berth 3
In Devonport, 27 piles – each 42-metres-long and weighing nearly 40 tonnes – have been installed at Berth 3 using a 122-tonne large-scale down-the-hole hammer setup. The Contractor’s attention will now be turning to the link span gantry structure.
Recovery Team
The Spirit of Tasmania recovery team is delivering upgraded hull specifications for Spirit IV to further prepare for rare or extreme weather events or vessel power failure.
The team is also working with TasPorts and the Harbour Master on the wharf infrastructure, as it plans for berthing in rare or extreme events.
