It’s official! Tasmania is getting an AFL team.
It’s understood all 18 club presidents voted unanimously on Tuesday afternoon to grant the state the 19th AFL licence.
It comes after Tasmania locked in federal funding for a new stadium at Macquarie Point – which was the last hurdle set by the AFL.

Tasmania made its first real bid for a team back in 1994, followed by another request in 2008.
The team is set to enter the league in 2027.
