A proposed $10 million highway stop and service centre new Ulverstone is back on the agenda.
Hobart-based Tasmanian Keystone Developments announced plans for what will become Tasmania’s biggest 24-hour truck stop in 2022 near the junction of South Road and the Bass Highway at West Ulverstone.
The development application was passed by the Central Coast Council and the Tasmanian Planning Commission, but the developers put it on hold last year, saying it had other priorities and wouldn’t be able to proceed for at least another two or three years.
Keystone put the land on the market as a development-approved site, announcing the site has now been sold.
It’s expected the new owner will proceed with the development, which will,include fuel sales, a large convenience store and amenities, two drive-through restaurants, including the first Banjo’s Bakery drive-through in Tasmania, parking for 53 cars, as well as spaces for trucks and busses.
The original application said more than 21,000 vehicles a day pass by the site, 16 per cent of which is heavy vehicle traffic, making it an ideal site for the development.
