Ulverstone women kicked out of finals

Reigning NWFL women’s premier Ulverstone has been excluded from the finals after fielding an ineligible player in last Friday night’s first semi-final against Devonport.

The result of the match has been overturned, meaning Devonport will now play Penguin in this Friday night’s preliminary final at Girdlestone Park at East Devonport.

An investigation by the NWFL found three Robins’ players were wrongly listed on team sheets in rounds 15 and 16, with two of the three players not having played enough matches this season to qualify to play in the finals.

The league found the players weren’t on the ground or on the bench for the entirety of the match, which is a breach of the NWFL rules.

One of the ineligible trio played in last week’s semi-final.

The winner of Friday night’s preliminary final will advance to the grand final against Wynyard, who won last week’s second semi-final over Penguin.

The grand final, which has been played on a Friday night under lights in recent years, will be played on Sunday, August 27th as the featured game at 2 pm, in a gala day for female football alongside the NWFL under 14 and under 17 girl’s grand final at the Ulverstone Recreation Ground.
