Coastal netballer Charlotte Walker has become the second-only player from Tasmania to be signed by a Super Netball League national competition, being recruited by reigning champions the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The 18 year-old from Burnie has been playing for Devon in the Tasmanian Netball League and played for Australia in under 21s this year.
The tall defender came under notice from the Thunderbirds after a training camp in Adelaide for the national under 21 side, which is also coached by Adelaide’s assistant coach.
Tasmanian Sports Minister Nic Street has congratulated Walker, saying the State Government’s support of netball on the Coast, including $400,000 to resurface Burnie’s outdoor courts and $25 million towards the Devonport Sports Precinct which will include new netball courts will only improve pathways for young talented netballers in the region.
