Time running out to get bushfire ready

Tasmanians living in bushfire-prone areas are being urged to take advantage of a new online tool to ensure they're prepared for summer.

It's part of a State Government package of mitigation measures worth $17.6 million after the devestating bushfires of last summer.

The new ‘5-minute bushfire plan’ is an easy to use online tool that allows people to run through a questionnaire to plan what they’ll do to keep themselves and their household safe in the event of a bushfire.

Chief Fire Officer Chris Arnol warning there'll be at least three significant fires this season.

"From Christmas time onwards we can expect to have fires."

"Whilst we're saying we're having a normal fire season, we will have fires, and we're anticipating three to four major fires in the new year, because we're in the worst bushfire prone area on Earth."

Mr Arnol stressed, "people need to have bushfire plans in this state."

"You can build a five minute bushfire plan by going online, following the prompts, and you'll have a plan that you can print out and share with your family and friends to make sure you're bushfire ready
