Launceston shooting charge

police

An Invermay man has been arrested and charged over a shooting incident in Launceston last month.

Members of the Northern Firearms Task Force searched the 28-year-old's home, where they allegedly uncovered cannabis and ammunition.

The arrest relates to a shooting incident at Mayfield on April 10, where a shotgun was discharged into the air.

Windows were also smashed at the Mayfield Street property and surveillance cameras removed.

The man is now facing charges of recklessly discharging a firearm, possessing a firearm, possessing ammunition, destroying property, drug offences and stealing.

The Northern Firearms Task Force was set up in response to a number of concerning incidents involving guns in Tasmania's north.

Police urge anyone with information about illegal gun activity to contact police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
