Another Christmas parade bites the dust

Burnie Christmas Parade

Christmas parades could be a bit thin on the ground across the Coast this festive season, with yet another one being cancelled due to concerns over the ability to deliver a COVID-safe event under current Tasmanian Department of Health crowd management guidelines.

This time it's the Somerset parade that's bitten the dust, with organisers claiming it's just too hard to co-ordinate with additional requirements and low volunteer numbers.

The Penguin parade has also been cancelled and the Ulverstone's is looking shaky, with the Burnie City Council seeking urgent expressions of interest to run its parade.

Wynyard's parade, on Christmas Eve, is still going ahead, with organisers implementing a COVID plan for 7000 spectators wearing masks as a ticketed event.
