police lights new

A truck driver and several Claremont residents have avoided serious injury after the 16.5-tonne vehicle crashed into a house off the Brooker Highway on Sunday night.

Police are yet to confirm social media reports youths threw a rock at the vehicle's windscreen from the Box Hill Road overpass, causing it to lose control just before 10 pm.

The northbound truck crossed to the wrong side, hurtled down an embankment and hit the rear of a Bristol Road home.

The 34-year-old driver was trapped for 45 minutes before being cut free and taken to hospital.

Anyone with information should contact Glenorchy police.
