Government under the pump to reverse Burnie court decision
Pressure is mounting on the State Government to reverse its decision to move the Burnie Court complex from the CBD to the former site of the University of Tasmania Cradle Coast Campus on Mooreville Road - around three kilometres away from the CBD.
A Government report from 2019 says there's no suitable locations in the CBD and redevelopment of the current court complex is not viable.
However, this week's Burnie City Council meeting voted to specify sites it believes are suitable and to urge the Government to look at alternative sites in the CBD.
The move to Mooreville Road has been roundly criticised by the council, the legal fraternity, CDB businesses, the State Opposition, and Mooreville Road residents.
