Mate, BookTok is going to love this.
After years of fans of the massively successful author, Brandon Sanderson, complained about the lack of screen adaptations of any of his work, fans can finally rejoice. But which property of Sanderson’s will be adapted and by whom? Well, you’ve read the title of this article so you know it’s Apple TV. But Apple TV bought the rights to ALL OF SANDERSONS WORK SET IN THE COSMERE.
Sanderson, after famously stating that streaming services have an epic fantasy issue that they can’t quite seem to get right, he appears to finally feel settled that Apple TV is the right place to adapt his work.
“I’m not convinced that we have hit stability in the streaming market,… Streaming has had a big problem with epic fantasy, and this has me worried… Streaming hasn’t figured out epic fantasy yet.” – Brandon Sanderson, 2024
Apple TV in the last few years have turned into a quiet streaming Goliath. Whilst not being one of the most frequent distributors of original content, it has by far one of the best success rates for when they do. Original shows such as; Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Severance, Slow Horses, Pluribus, Foundation, MurderBot and more have all been met with massive critical success. Apple TV also might just be the perfect home for Brandon Sanderson as they appear to be the service that don’t mind taking there time and putting more effort into less projects than throwing a thousand things at a dart board and hoping one sticks. This will pair perfectly with Sanderson who has ensured he stays closely attached to the development of all of his properties, not just selling the IP and walking away with the cash.
It’s being reported that the first novel to receive an adaptation is none other than the Mistborn trilogy. It’s being reported that the Mistborn book, The Final Empire, is being turned into a movie. Whilst his other most popular series, The Stormlight Archive is being developed into a TV series. More news is sure to come in the future in regards to which books will receive adaptations.
What do you think fans?
