Think your first few days at a new workplace was tough?
Security camera footage from a Texas Salon captured an unforgettable first-day moment: a new employee gently closed a tempered-glass sliding door, and it shattered.
The employee stepped away to gather products for a client seated just behind the glass. When she returned, she grabbed the door handle and began to slide it shut. Within moments, the tempered glass exploded into hundreds of small pieces that rained down around her. She remained standing, still gripping the handle, while her client and nearby coworkers reacted in shock. No one was injured, and staff quickly composed themselves amid the debris.
Owner Christina Batson confirmed the employee used no unusual force. “What makes the video so surprising is that our employee wasn’t doing anything unusual or applying excessive force,” Batson told Storyful. “She was simply going about her normal duties when the glass suddenly shattered.”
Tempered glass is designed to break into small, relatively harmless fragments rather than large jagged shards, which is why injuries are rare in such incidents. Spontaneous breakage can occur without an obvious external cause, sometimes linked to internal stresses, edge damage, or manufacturing inclusions that weaken the pane over time.
Thankfully no one was hurt
“Everyone was okay! We did have two brooms and a vacuum to clean up all that glass lol. We’ve been in business for 3 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened! We haven’t replace the door. We’re honestly rethinking this whole glass thing lol”
Online, the clip spread rapidly, with viewers turning the awkward moment into light-hearted commentary about first-day disasters. Many point out the best part is the employee’s calm reaction and the intact door handle still in her hand as she says, “me when I pull the door handle and it shatters”
How does this compare to your first day at work?
