A sperm whale that died after beaching itself in shallow waters at Turners Beach on Wednesday night will be buried.
A spokesperson for The Department of Natural Resources and Environment says they’re aiming to bury the 13 tonne, 10-meter-long whale nearby today.
Yesterday, the NRE and Parks and Wildlife responded to the incident to assess response options however the animal was confirmed dead around 1:20pm.
The Department said while it was a sad outcome, strandings can occur for a number of reasons and that wildlife deaths are a natural part of life in the marine environment.
Samples have been taken from the whale to help determine the cause of death.
